Fatigue & Damage Tolerance

STRAND has performed fatigue and damage tolerance (F&DT) calculations to support checkstress, test, design and product development activities for Airbus, Messier-Dowty, GKN and Aerosud among others.

                                                                                                                                                            

The A340-500/600 work was for the front and centre wing spars, and was carried out for three weight variants of the aircraft.  Analysis was performed according to Airbus approved methods using the DAMTOL suite of programs.  Both fatigue and damage tolerance analyses were performed to calculate aircraft life and inspection intervals. 

                                                                                                                                                            

On the A380-800 the Rear Spar, Centre Spar, Front Spar, Wing Covers at the Spars, and the Wing Tip Attachments, were analysed and written up according to a new Airbus standardised report format.

                                                                                                                                                              

For the A400M the Wing Fatigue Gust Spectrum was generated and the Manoeuvre Spectrum derived using a specially developed method. Preliminary assessments were carried out on the Main Airframe Fatigue Test, and the Health Monitoring and Operational Load Measurement System.

                                                                                                                                                            

STRAND has extensive experience of the Airbus and Messier-Dowty F&DT methods and programs, and also has in-house programs and training procedures.  STRAND's Chief Structural Engineer (Fatigue & Damage Tolerance) has over 40 years of experience.
