Flaps and Ailerons
Strand stressed all major components using standard hand calculation methods. All loads were obtained from FE model analysis. Microsoft Excel macros were then used to sort the Nastran stress and load data for use in the individual component analysis. Items analysed for fatigue in all three of the control surfaces were determined by first performing an overall stress survey. The fatigue loads and stresses used were obtained from the FE model, run with applied fatigue airloads. Microsoft Excel was again used to sort the FE fatigue loads and stresses to create input files to be used in customer supplied programs which produced component lives. Strand also provided test support for the flaps, airbrakes and ailerons post completion of the initial check stress.
Wing Box and Centre Box Strain Gauge Correlation
A Strand stressman was placed on site at Airbus Filton to carry out indepth investigations on the agreement between test strain gauge reading and predicted FE stresses. This was in support of producing the test report.
Wing Box FEM
Strand was asked to produce a detailed model of certain wing ribs with special emphasis on the rib to skin interface. A stress report was produced and submitted to the customer.
Main and Nose Landing Gear
Both Fatigue and Static analysis of the Main and Nose landing gear components were carried out at Strand. Static analysis was carried out on the main landing gear stabiliser using purely hand calculation methods. Fatigue analysis has been done for the main landing gear and the stabiliser of the Nose landing gear. Fatigue loads used were a combination of hand calculated loads and FE loads. Obtaining hand calculated loads involved the derivation of stress equations for the landing gear at various deployed positions. The loads were then applied to customer supplied spectrums. The final damages were calculated by running customer supplied fatigue programs and conventional hand calculation methods. Test support work was also carried out for the Nimrod main landing gear. |
