Strand has supported Messier-Dowty in the optimization of the A350-900 Main Landing Gear structures in preparation for the Preliminary Design Review activities. The structures are made of cutting-edge titanium alloy with excellent strength and fatigue properties. Simulated loads from finite element models were extracted and fed into computer worksheets that carry out analytical stress calculations. The geometry of the structures were then revised based on findings against the critical load cases and were reflected in the prototype structure.
