In January 2009, SAM’s top management met with the current Prime Minister of Malaysia (PM), Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Razak. The PM is one of the champions of the Malaysian aerospace industry
SAM’s management was lead by it’s Chairman (Datuk Dr. Ahmed Tasir) followed by its Chief Executive Officer (Anthony Bedborough) and Chief Operating Officer. The British High Commissioner toMalaysia, Sir Boyd McCleary also attended the meeting to show support for a company the High Commission regards as representing a unique example of Malaysia-UK high technology partnerships.
The purpose of the visit was to discuss with the PM, SAM’s development plan and its concurrence with the countries own aerospace development. SAM’s development plan highlighted its proposal to provide a uniquely Malaysian high technology engineering solution to the Royal Malaysian Air Force. The PM was supportive of SAM’s plans and reiterated his support for the decisions made by the Government of Malaysia at the last Malaysian Aerospace Council (October 2008) to fund SAM’s development in support of the development of Civil aircraft manufacturing in Malaysia.
